About And Roses

And Roses is a show featuring conversations with artists and creators about the intersections of creativity and social change.

Described as “…if Fresh Air was hosted by a socialist organizer,” it’s an earnest attempt to connect personal stories of artistic passions and challenges to the capitalist social context in which they unfold.

By applying a materialist lens to the struggles of artists, the show aims to offer a guiding light for creators who yearn to express themselves and utilize their gifts without isolating themselves in individualism.

The theme song was created by friend and fellow DSA-LA organizer Joe V, sampling a cover of Bread and Roses by Kate Vikstrom.

About Jordan

Jordan Username is a writer and socialist organizer based in Los Angeles.

After hosting the San Diego-based arts and culture podcast “The Reindeer Club” from 2015-17, Jordan moved to Los Angeles where he put his personal creative endeavors on hold to dedicate himself to community organizing as a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.

After 7 years of experience in DSA and counting, spanning political campaigns, administrative work, and a variety of elected leadership positions, Jordan decided to create And Roses as way to merge his insights from the world of on-the-ground political organizing with his passion for telling the stories and struggles of creators.

Jordan is slowly working on one book about the epic highs and lows of his first several years as a socialist organizer, and another about his journey away from the evangelical Christianity of his youth.
